The topical use of coconut oil plays an important role in preventing and regenerating damaged hair and is an excellent natural conditioner. This is primarily due to its hydrophobic characteristics (which prevent the penetration of water and particles from the surrounding air into the hair strands) and their effectiveness in reducing protein loss.
One study has shown that capillary swelling is limited by the presence of coconut oil, which has a greater penetrating power when compared to mineral oils. As the swelling/discoloration process is extremely damaging to the hair (because it causes fatigue to the hair fibers, weakening them), it was found that coconut oil provides better protection to damaged hair than other oils.

Another study has shown that coconut oil helps reduce protein loss by binding to the protein molecules of the hair fibers, supporting them. In practical terms, this translates into healthier and more lucid hair. It is no coincidence that many hair conditioners and beauty products use coconut oil in their formula. However, due to their dilution and mixing with other ingredients, they end up not having the same effect as the application of pure coconut oil.

The waist circumference is easy to measure and a good control parameter for abdominal fat assessment. In two studies in patients with abdominal obesity, a daily dose of 30 ml of coconut oil was administered. In the first one, performed in 40 women, there was a significant reduction in both BMI (body mass index) and waist circumference after a period of 3 months. In the second study, performed in 20 men, an average reduction of almost 3 cm was observed in the waist circumference after only 1 month.
It should be borne in mind that these results were obtained simply by adding coconut oil to the normal diet of the patients. If this was associated with a physical exercise routine or a calorie restricted diet, the results would probably be even more significant.
